Rescue Stories/ Hope, Nina , Cutie

Hope, Nina, Cutie

Summer 2014

I received a telephone call from Milagros.

An older couple in Hialeah had been moved from their home

to a Nursing Home.

They had had cats, and these cats were now in the streets.

Could I take one?

So here came Hope. Well, I called her Hope because I

figured she was hoping for a new home.

She was very skinny, had an about 6-month-old kitten with

her, and was pregnant.

She gave birth to four kittens. Three were adopted and one

stayed with her and us as this kitten had a skin condition that

we needed to treat. I named her Cutie, and the older kitten

that came with her, I named Nina.

Hope got stronger, started to gain weight, and then got a

very strong upper respiratory virus that was very difficult to

shake.

Finally, she got better, until about two years later, when she

was diagnosed with Panleukopenia.

After treatment and 40-day seclusion from the other cats,

Hope was fine.

However, it seems that all the antibiotic had done something

to her teeth and she was in much pain to eat.

A good part of her teeth was removed. She improved but

after a year, she started showing symptoms of needing to

have the rest of her teeth out.

She had surgery again, just keeping the four canines.

Then she flourished, gained weight, was able to eat well and

be happy.

And that is our Hope today. Probably 14 or 15 years of age,

and very sweet with all.

Nina & Cutie are, like their mother, two gentle female cats.

Thank God they have been and are healthy.
